After-Church Connections’ mission is to shine a light on the stark financial disparities stemming from both generational and situational poverty, dispelling the damaging myth that individuals in poverty are inherently lazy or unwilling to uplift themselves. Our commitment lies in fostering meaningful connections among people to expand social capital and enhance access to resources, all while providing vital support to prevent the tragic consequences of poverty, including suicide and other perilous acts.
In pursuit of this noble cause, we prioritize initiatives such as feeding the hungry and providing temporary and transitional shelter, empowering individuals to reclaim stability and dignity. Our holistic approach encompasses personal development, educational opportunities, intentional community-building, and neighborhood connections, all facilitated through empowering programs. Our ultimate goal is to cultivate a supportive community where individuals can surmount economic obstacles, discover hope, and forge a brighter future for themselves and their families, both on grand and subtle scales.
Cheryl and Chris Williams founded After Church Connections from their personal struggle with poverty, that led to a series of devastating events including a suicide attempt, divorce, and homelessness. The organization’s name reflects that pivotal moment of a suicide attempt post-church service, underscoring the need for continuous support beyond religious gatherings.
Before starting After Church Connections, Cheryl and Chris successfully built and operated a million-dollar daycare business but faced poverty due to financial mismanagement. Their experience revealed the loneliness and shame tied to poverty, exposing gaps in support systems.
Driven by the belief that those who have lived through poverty are best suited to address its challenges, Cheryl and Chris leads a team at After Church Connections that combines education, passion, and firsthand understanding to make a real difference.
